Growing up in Kenya I was surrounded by unparalleled natural beauty and majestic animals; none more so than the impala. This collection began when I found broken impala horns in the Rift Valley, where young males had fought to establish dominance over the herd. I inlayed these with silver to create the first items in my Pembe collection. Animal horn is of particular significance to jewellers who used it originally to form their hammers on account of its strength and durability. I have since then moved on to use Ankole horn to create the collection pieces you see today, but the method used to gather them remains the same. No animals were harmed in the creation of these pieces!
